TOMATO STEW
As this fine vegetable is now becoming plenty, let us give the readers of the Cultivator a simple but excellent way to serve it. Scald and skin the desired number, and place in a stew-pan without water; let them simmer for half an hour. Add pepper, salt, a good-sized piece of butter and a spoonful or two of white sugar. Grate a few bits of stale bread over all; boil up once, and serve very hot.
