Vinegar Cookies

½ cup sugar

½ cup butter

½ molasses

1 egg

1 teasp. Soda

1 teasp. Ginger

1 teasp. Vinegar

Molded Egg Salad                        Frances

12 hard-boiled eggs

2 tablespoons of unflavored gelatine

½ cup of cold water

1 cup of mayonnaise

 1 ½ teaspoon of salt

1/8 teaspoon of pepper

1 tablespoon of lemon juice

2 tablespoons of chopped green pepper

2 tablespoons chopped pimento

Sprinkle gelatin over cold water let stand 10 min.  Dissolve in boiling water.  Put eggs thru grinder or ricer and remaining ingredients add gelatin and mold.  This recipe makes a lot.

A lot of Vinegar cookies. 

I have been separating out some of these recipes with vinegar as an ingredient.  It has been very interesting looking at how many different sweet things use vinegar; candy (usually taffy), cakes, pie crusts and pies as well as these cookies.  I never thought that an ingredient which I think is usually in just pickles, salad dressing and maybe B-B-Q sauce would be used in sweet recipes.

The early ones are Molasses cookies, the later ones are just flavored drop cookies.  I am going to have to experiment with these to see what the vinegar does to the cookie. 

On October 31^st I have a bunch of recipes for a cookie called Monkey Faces; they have vinegar as part of the ingredients, come back and check them out!
