June 7th 1912 Bread
Avondale Pennsylvania 1912
June 7th 1912
Bread Ann Moore’s Aunt
3 Sieves of Flour
¾ cup of sugar
2 yeast cakes
Large tablespoon of lard
Large tablespoon of salt
1 qt. warm of water or more. Mix dry ingredients, stir in the water. Mix about ½ sieve of flour after the water has been put in. Let rise about 1 ½ hrs. Grease pans fill pans ½ full of the dough, let rise the second time, bake about ½ hour or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on bottom.

From another book that I have, the measurement for a sieve of flour equals about 4 cups. It sounds to me that this recipe will make quite a few loaves, possible 4-6 of them.
DAILY RECIPES BY CALENDAR
As an ongoing feature here, I will add to this each day the recipes out of several books I have that are dated or from calendar books
I have three right off the bat that are calendars, one from 1875, one from the early 1900’s and one from the 1930’s to 40’s.
A small leather covered calendar book from Burlington Vermont dated 1875. It has all kinds of lovely handwritten dessert recipes; the front of the book has an overview of each month and a predictive weather chart, the difference of tie between Boston and New York, the value of gold and silver at the time and other interesting things like rates of postage.
The list of names for the people who contributed recipes for these books are listed here;
