Mardi Gras Cake 1950’s

1 pkg. (18 ½ oz.) Lemon cake mix

1 can. 30 oz size Del Monte Fruit Cocktail

½ c. Oleo

1 c. packed brown sugar

1 cup water

Drain cocktail, reserve 1/3 c. syrup.  Melt oleo in 13×9 in. pan, add sugar, arrange fruit in sugar mixture.  Prepare cake mix as directed using 1 c. water & 1/3 c. syrup.  Spread over fruit.  Bake 350degrees 40-50 minutes (or till done)

Cool 5 min. invert into large serving dish.
