Baked Apples

4 – 6 large baking apples                           ½ C. gran. Sugar

¾ C. boiling water

Pare apples 1/3 of the way down from stem end; core.  Place pared side down, in saucepan; add water, cover, and cook slowly until tender, adding more water if necessary.  Remove to a shallow baking pan, using a large spoon and a wide spatula, placing pared side up.  Sprinkle apples with the sugar and pour juice left in saucepan around them.  Bake in a very hot oven of 500degrees F. 20-30 min. or until glazed and lightly browned, basting every 10 min with juice in pan.  Cool.  Serves 4-6.
