Baked Apples
4 – 6 large baking apples ½ C. gran. Sugar
¾ C. boiling water
Pare apples 1/3 of the way down from stem end; core. Place pared side down, in saucepan; add water, cover, and cook slowly until tender, adding more water if necessary. Remove to a shallow baking pan, using a large spoon and a wide spatula, placing pared side up. Sprinkle apples with the sugar and pour juice left in saucepan around them. Bake in a very hot oven of 500degrees F. 20-30 min. or until glazed and lightly browned, basting every 10 min with juice in pan. Cool. Serves 4-6.
