“Way Down East Pudding”
Mix together one cupful of oatmeal, one-half cupful of flour and a cupful of sugar and a cupful of currants, a teaspoonful of soda and two of cream of tartar. Pour into a two-quart basin and steam three hours. Serve with vanilla sauce or with a hard sauce, as preferred.
Down-east is a slang term that locals use for the state of Maine.

1 tablespoon boric acid
