Maud’s Cake
½ cup chocolate
½ cup butter
Melted
½ cup sweet milk
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup flour
½ spoon soda 1 cream tartat
Flavor with vanilla

Bread & Butter Pickles
Slice med pickles without peeling.
5 qts. Of cucumbers. Sprinkle over them ½ cup salt then cover with ice cubes. Put a plate on top and let stand 3 hrs. Then drain, pour over the cucumbers a mixture of 5 cups of vinegar, 5 cups of sugar (or 2 ½ cups of sugar and 2 ½ cups light Karo) 2 tbsp mustard seed, 1 tsp. celery seed, ½ tsp. of whole cloves, 1 ½ tsps. of turmeric dissolved in vinegar. Heat slowly till ready to boil but do not boil. Put in jars at once and seal. About 18 sized (med.) cucumbers.

Bake 35 or 40 min. 350 oven 8” pan or 9”
Mix well
½ cup shortening
1 ¼ cups sugar
2 eggs
Add alternating
1 ½ cups flour 1 ts. Soda
½ ts. Salt 1 ts. Baking powder
With
1 cup hot water, not boiling
½ cup cocoa
