Vegetable Chop Suey
2 tbsp. shortening or drippings
1 cup tomatoes
4 cups cabbage shredded
½ cup green pepper (cut fine)
1/3 cup onion (cut fine)
1 cup fresh corn
1/3 cup water
¾ tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
Cover and boil 15 minutes or until vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally, sprinkle over veg. then stir and boil 1 min. 1 ½ tbsp. flour. Stir in 2/3 hot pet milk, do not boil after adding milk.

It has all kinds of lovely handwritten dessert recipes; the front of the book has an overview of each month and a predictive weather chart, the difference of tie between Boston and New York, the value of gold and silver at the time and other interesting things like rates of postage.

Midsummer Cakes & Genoese Cake
Whites of 5 eggs beat to a foam, add ½ teaspoon cr. Tar., beat till stiff & dry. Add gradually ¾ cup gran. Sugar, ¼ teasp. almond flavoring. And fold in ½ cup flour sifted 3 times.
Meringue filling
Beat whites of one egg slightly, add ½ cup crushed fruit. 1 cup con. Sugar, beat 15 min.
Genoese Cake
3 very large eggs, add ½ cup sugar stand in pan of boiling water & beat 15 min. Add 1/3 cup melted butter & ¾ cup flour & ½ teasp. B.P. Flavor as desired.
