Canned Beans Sarah White
Boil Beans with a little salt till nearly done, put ½ teaspoon salicylic acid in the bottom of 1 qt. jar, and fill with beans and juice, seal tight, turn upside down until cold.

Pepper Relish
24 red, green and yellow peppers
6 large onions
Grind well thru large grinder, scald and drain.
4 level tsp. salt
2 cups sugar
1 tbsp. mustard seed, cover with vinegar and cook 15 or 20 minutes. After peppers and onions are ground put in a pan and pour boiling water over and drain at once.

2 eggs, unbeaten
1 cup sugar (big)
3 ts. Hot compound (? Compound. In thinking about this, I believe it is the fat, such as Crisco shortening)
1 t salt
1 cup sour cream or buttermilk
2 cups sifted flour
2 ts. Hot water
¼ t ginger
½ T grated nutmeg
1 t soda
If buttermilk is used, use 2 ts. Shortening.
Make 3 doz. Cakes
