Burlington Vermont 1875

1 cup sugar

½ cup butter

½ cup milk

2 eggs and the yolk of one

1 teaspoon cream of tarter

½ teaspoon soda

2 cups flour

Filling

½ lb. figs

1 cup boiling water

¾ cup sugar

Simmer till water is boiled out, split cake to fill.

Hot Water Pie Crust

1 cup lard

½ cup boiling water

3 cups flour

½ teaspoon salt

½ tsp. baking powder

Bakes 2 pies.  Let stand in cold before using.
