Chocolate Cookies
½ c. melted butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
½ c. milk -sweet
1 ½ c. flour
½ tsp. soda
1 c. nutmeats
2 squares melted chocolate
1 t. vanilla
½ t. B.P.
Frosting
1 egg white
Confec. Sugar
2 sqs. Chocolate
Sqs. = squares; confec = confectioners

Pickles – very good
½ pts. Cucumbers – whole, put in brine strong enough to hold up an egg – let stand for 3 days. Then in clear cold water for three days. Then wipe dry and cut in inch pieces – use weak vinegar – add 12 grape leaves and 1 ts. Powdered alum, Let pickles simmer in the 1 hr. Take and put in 3 pts. Vinegar – not too sour, 4 lbs. gran. Sugar, 1 oz. c(?) buds, ½ whole allspice – heated
