The Stapleton Family Cookbook September 24th, 1913 Wedding Cake (Fruit Cake)

Our Wedding Cake. Sept 24, 1913

Fruit Cake

1 lb. sugar (add about 1 cup more of sugar)

1 lb. butter

1 lb. flour

12 eggs

2 lbs. currants

2 lbs. raisins

1 large spoon cinnamon

4 whole nutmeg – grated

3 glass sherry wine

2 glass brandy

1 glass rosewater

1 lb. citron

1 tsp. soda

½ lb. figs

1 ½ cups almonds – cut

½ T. cloves

Beat sugar and butter to a cream; add yolks of eggs well beaten alternately with flour; add fruit, wine and brandy, whites of eggs last.  (follow recipe exactly)

For double recipe;

 1 pt. sherry

1 pt. brandy

½ pt. rosewater

Bake four hours or longer.
