Holiday Fruit Cookies

Mix together Thoroughly

 1 c. soft shortening

2 c. brown sugar (packed in cup)

2 eggs

Stir in

½ c. sour or buttermilk

Sift together & stir in;

3 ½ c. sifted Gold medal flour

1 tsp. soda

1 tsp. salt

Mix in 1 ½ c. broken pecans

2 c. candied cherries – cut in halves

2 c. cut dates

Chill at least 1 hr.  Drop small teaspoonfuls 2 in. apart on lightly greased baking sheet.  Place a pecan half on each cooky.  Bake 8 to 10 mins. In moderately hot oven (400degrees) until set & until when touched lightly with finger, almost no imprint remains.  Makes about 7 doz. (2 in. in diameter)

Sour Cream Cookies     

2 cups sugar

1 cup shortening

1 cup sour cream

5 cups flour

1 teaspoon soda

2 teaspoons B. powder

Lemon extract

2 eggs

Brown Sugar Cookies                

2 cups Brown sugar

1 cup shortening

2 eggs

1 t. soda in flour

2 t. cream of tartar

1 t. ginger

4 c. flour

Roll into ball’s & pat out & mark with fork.

Potato Candy          

½ c mashed pot.

1/8 t. salt

1 lb. sifted P. sugar

½ t. vanilla

1 c pnut butter

Mash pots, add p. sugar & salt.  Roll out on board sprinkled with powd. Sugar, spread with pnut butter.  Roll up like cinnamon rolls – slice.
