December 28th, Holiday Baking #58, 1932 Jell-O or Gelatine Salad & Holiday Fruit Cookies

Jell-O or Gelatine Salad
1 pkg. lemon jello or gelatine
1 c boiling water
1 c pine-apple juice
1 c chopped celery
1 c chopped carrots
½ c pineapple
Little salt
When jello cools, add the other ingredients. Set out to harden.

Holiday Fruit Cookies
Mix together thoroughly
1 c. soft shortening
2 c. brown sugar (packed in cup)
2 eggs
Stir in
½ c. sour or butter milk
Sift together & stir in;
3 ½ c. sifted Gold Medal flour]1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
Mix in
1 ½ c. broken pecans
2 c. candied cherries – cut in halves
2 c. cut-up dates
Chill at least 1 hr. drop small teaspoonfuls 2 in. apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Place a pecan half on each cooky. Bake 8 to 10 mins. In moderately hot oven (400degrees) until set & until when touched lightly with finger, almost no imprint remains. Makes about 7 doz. (2 in. in diameter)
