Spiced Figs
Make a strong soda solution with boiling water & pour this over figs. Just enough to cover bottom of a preserving kettle. Let stand 5 min. & then drain them thoroughly; Rinse.
Take 1 qt. vinegar to 3lbs. sugar, when dissolved add figs. Make a spice bag filled with whole cloves, stick cinnamon & allspice. Add to figs & boil slowly for 1 hr. If you have any syrup left, more figs can be cooked in it.
In this amt. use ¾ small bucket of figs. Cover tight while they boil.

Candied Figs
(10 lbs. figs to 5# sugar. Mama)
2 small buckets of figs. Pour boiling water over them & 4 large T. baking soda. Let them stand about 20 min. in this solution. Drain in strainer. Take 10# sugar & 4 qts. Water & make a syrup. Put in figs. Boil 1 hour, covered tightly – the first day only. Do these 2 or 3 times more (4 days) without lid. Seal in hot jars.

Peach and Pear Marmalade
Do not peal – grind all together
12 pears
12 peaches
6 oranges
To each C. of ground fruit add 1 C. of sugar. Cook about 30 min. Seal
