July 1948

Sour Cream Cookies     

Full recipe                                               ½ of the recipe

2 c. brown sugar                                    1 cup

½ c. shortening                                      ¼ c.

1 c. sour cream                                      ½ c.

1 t. salt                                                    ½ t.

1 t. soda                                                ½ t.

1 t. bkpd.                                              ½ t.

2 eggs                                                   1 egg

4 c. flour                                              2 cups

1 t. each of cinn & nutmeg               ½ t.

1 c. chopped nuts or raisins              ½ c.

Cream shortening, sugar & egg – add little flour, then cream til all is gone.  Drop on greased sheet.  Place a nut on cookies.  Bake @ 400degrees 12 – 15 minutes.

Our Old Time Fudge Cake

1 c. sugar                   1 ½ c. flour                  1 c. sour milk

1 T. butter                 1 t. soda                       1 ½ sq. melted choc

1 egg                          1 t. bkpd                       1 t. cloves, cinn & nutmeg

Mix as butter cake.  Bake 30 min @ 375degrees

Sausage & Chicken Noodle Soup      

1 lb. bulk sausage                         1 c. celery

1 c. raw rice                                  ¼ c. chopped onion

2/3 c. sliced almond

1 pkg. lipton’s chicken noodle soup

4 c. water                                      salt & pepper

Fry sausage – break up with a fork. Brown rice with sausage.  Add other ingredients.  Bake in slow oven until onion & celery are done – about 1 hr. @ 350degrees – Serves 10

Hot Carrot Dish        

3 c. mashed cooked carrots

1 ½ c. cooked brown rice

½ doz small green onions – minced

2 beaten eggs – salt & pepper

½ c. milk  1 t. Worcestershire sauce

½ c. grated cheese

Bake 1 hr. 250degree oven in muffin tins or casserole, set in water

Sauce

1 can mushroom soup 1 can small mushrooms

½ c. grated cheese

Cook in a double boiler
