Cheap Fruit Cake
1 cup brown sug, ½ cup butter, 1 cup each raisins, nuts, currants and citron; orange & lemon peel if liked, 1 table spn. Mixed spices, ½ tea spn. Salt. Stir all together and let boil one min. Set off to cool and stir in 2 cups of sifted flour. Bake in slow oven, forty minutes.

Dark Fruit Cake
1 lb. butter, 1 ¼ lb. brown sugar, 10 eggs, 1 cup dark molasses, 1 cup brandy & a little sherry, 1 table spn. Cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, 2 lbs. currents, 3 lbs. raisins, 1 lb. citron; dredge fruit with ½ lb. flour, use 1 lb. flour in cake, 1 tablesp. B.p. beat eggs separately. Bake four hours in moderate oven.

Candied Grape Fruit Peel

Light Fruit Cake
1 lb. butter, (2 cups solid)
1 lb. sugar (2 cups)
1 ¼ lb. flour, 9 eggs,
1 ½ lb. currants
1 ½ lb. white raisins
½ lb. each candied pine apple and cherries
¼ lb. mixed each orange, lemon peel, two ounces chopped almonds.

Kate’s Fruit Cake
¾ cup butter, or 1 cube, ¾ cup sugar, 6 eggs beat separately, 2 ½ tbsp. orange juice or sherry, 2 cups flour, ¾ tsp. baking powder, 1 ¾ cups walnuts, 1 lb. pkg. seeded raisins, ½ lb. cherries and pineapple, (3 rings pineapple 25 cts cherries)
½ lb. citron, lemon & orange peel one pkg. each
Bake in slow oven 1 ½ hours. Makes two loaves in one lb. bread pans.
