Brown Betty
3 cups bread crumbs
1 qt. apples (finely chopped)
¼ cup butter
1 cup sugar
Nutmeg
½ lemon (grated rind & peel)
Use fresh crumbs, melt butter and mix with crumbs, mix sugar, spices & lemon. Put together alternate layers, having crumbs on top and bottom. Bake 40 minutes in good oven, cover half way through.

Thousand Island Cookies
1 cup sugar 2 cups flour
1 cup shortening ¾ ts. Soda in flour & 1 teas. B.P.
2 eggs 2 cups rolled oats
6 ts. Milk (1/3 c. +1) 1 cup chopped raisins
1 ts. Cinnamon
1 ts. Cloves
Drop from spoon 375degrees.

Peanut Cookies

2 eggs
1 cup sugar
10 ts. Butter (melted)
4 ts. Water
2 cups peanuts (chopped)
½ ts. B.P.
2 ½ cups flour
1 ts. Vanilla
Dough should be quite stiff. Drop with teaspoon on buttered tins – flatten quite thin.

Peanut Cookies
2 c. brown sugar 1 tsp. soda
1 c. butter 1 tsp. baking powder
2 c. oatmeal 1 c. salted peanuts
2 c. flour
2 eggs
Mix like ordinary cookies, roll into small balls & pat down.
Makes quite many
