Norwegian Julekake Delicious and Easy to Make, It says here
By Jane Eads
Washington, Dec. 22. – Mme. Wilhelm Munthe de Morgenstierne, wife of the Norwegian ambassador here has a recipe for Christmas bread called Julekake which is delicious and easy to make.
Two yeast cakes, 1 ½ cups milk, 1 ½ teaspoons salt, 1 cup sugar, 7 cups sifted flour, ¾ cup melted butter, 3 eggs, well beaten; ½ teaspoon cardamon, 1 ½ cups raisins, 1 cup sliced citron.
Crumble yeast in one-half cup of milk. Scald remaining milk. Add salt and two tablespoons of the sugar. When lukewarm add yeast and three cups of flour. Beat thoroughly, cover and let stand until sponge is light. Add butter, eggs, spice and remaining sugar, and flour. Mix thoroughly, knead and put into a large bowl. Cover and let rise until double in bulk.
Cut down, add raisins and citron, knead until elastic and smooth. Shape into leaves (I think they mean loaves) Place in greased tins. Cover and let rise again. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 360
The newspaper article ends here so there are no more directions. But I think you can guess pretty well how to finish it up.
